EXCLUSIVE: APC may postpone presidential primaries

Indications have emerged that the All Progressives Congress may postpone its national convention/presidential primaries.

While delegates are set to start arriving Abuja, the primaries which had suffered a change in dates before may be postponed again.

Although the convention is slated for Sunday, May 29 and Monday, May 30, there are moves at present to extend the exercise by one or two weeks.

It was initially billed for May 31 and June 1 before it was moved to this weekend.

WesternPost learnt the postponement was one of the issues discussed during a meeting APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu; INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmud Yakubu; and Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha had with President Muhammadu Buhari.

The planned postponement as exemplified in the delay in the commencement of activities towards the APC convention is already causing apprehension in Abuja.

It is not clear yet if INEC will dance to the party’s tune, though there are pressures on the commission to tinker with the dates.

The commission has stated that the timeline of April 4 to June 3 for presidential primaries remains sacrosanct.
