10 widows, 21 orphans left behind by slain soldiers- COAS

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has disclosed that 17 soldiers of the Nigerian Army killed in Delta State on March 14, 2024, left behind 10 widows, including 3 pregnant women, and 21 orphans.

Lagbaja emotionally disclosed that the pregnant women were at different stages of pregnancy, 4, 5, and 8 months respectively, as they were laid to rest.

“Your Excellency, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, the Okuama killing has added to the care of the Nigerian Army and, by extension, the Nigeria state – 10 windows (three of whom are 4, 5, and 8 months pregnant), 21 orphans, and many other dependents which include parents” he stated

The Army Chief further commiserated with the families of the deceased soldiers, assuring them that the Nigerian Army will do all it can to support them.

Stating that the bereaved would not be left in the cold, he averred that the military would go beyond its means to provide succor to them and preserve the memories of their departed loved ones.

President Bola Tinubu, the special guest at their burial ceremony, announced that the fallen officers would receive posthumous national honors.
