Tragedy struck in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, as a gas explosion rocked a retail shop, claiming two lives and leaving three others with severe injuries.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday along the Abule Pan, Lekki Epe Expressway, caused significant damage, engulfing four shops in flames.

Confirming the grim toll, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, took to his official handle on Wednesday to announce the devastating aftermath.

He wrote, “It is just a week and we have recorded another gas explosion at a gas retail shop, this time in Ibeju-Lekki.

“Sadly, two persons died, three persons sustained injuries and four shops got razed. Let us prevent avoidable deaths. Let us be safety-conscious at all times!”

This marks the second gas explosion within a week in Lagos, following a previous incident that resulted in substantial property damage.

In the wake of these incidents, authorities urge heightened safety measures to prevent further tragedies and emphasize the critical importance of vigilance in handling gas-related activities
