2027: Obi holds closed door meeting with Atiku, Lamido in Abuja

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, on Monday held separate closed door meetings with the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the former governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido at their Abuja homes.

Obi was said to have arrived Atiku’s house before visiting Lamido over what is yet to be known as at the time of filing this report.

Sources disclosed that the private meetings may not be unconnected with the build up to 2027 general elections.

Meanwhile, political observers opined that Obi may be warming his way back to the PDP since it was the party on which he ran as running mate to Atiku in 2019.

They argued that the crisis in LP may have made Obi think of returning to his previous political party which he dumped in May 2022.

It would be recalled that Obi dumped the PDP in 2022 before its presidential primaries when he claimed that the party did not give room for ‘constructive contributions’.

Also, recently in a podcast, the Media Adviser to Atiku, Paul Ibe, disclosed that the former governor of Rivers State and Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike was responsible for the defection of Obi to LP, adding that in 2023 Atiku was ready to drop his presidential ambition if the PDP could have micro-zoned the party’s ticket to the South East.
