2027: PDP denies merger talks

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly dismissed rumors of engaging in merger discussions with other political parties in preparation for the 2027 general election.

A statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, clarified the party’s stance after the 587th meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC).

“The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, after its meeting on June 4, 2024, reiterates that the PDP is not involved in any merger, fusion, or amalgamation talks with any other political party or interest,” Ologunagba stated.

He emphasized the party’s openness to all Nigerians, including former members who had left for other parties, while asserting the PDP’s strength and capability to win elections through a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.

“The NWC acknowledges the influx of millions of Nigerians into our party through the ongoing membership drive across all electoral wards nationwide, which further confirms that the PDP remains the party of choice for the majority of Nigerians,” he added.

Ologunagba urged the public, party members, democratic institutions, and the international community to disregard any reports suggesting a merger between the PDP and any other political party, stating that such an idea is not under consideration by the party.
