2027: Youth group endorses Seyi Makinde for President

As the 2027 general election approaches, the Progressive Youth for Makinde’s Presidency 2027 (PYMP2027) has formally declared its support for Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to contest the presidency.
This endorsement follows recent remarks by former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, who expressed doubt about Makinde’s interest in the presidential race, suggesting that the Oyo governor would likely avoid contesting against another Yoruba candidate.
However, in a statement signed by its National Secretary and Head of Media, Christopher Odianarewo, PYMP2027 dismissed Fayose’s claims, asserting that their support is grounded in Governor Makinde’s proven leadership and the urgent need for national renewal.
“Our beloved country is in crisis,” the statement read. “From the declining value of the naira, rising insecurity, unaffordable housing, to a crumbling education system—the challenges are overwhelming. After careful research, we believe H.E. Engr. Oluseyi Makinde is the leader Nigeria needs.”
The group praised Governor Makinde’s achievements in Oyo State, citing progress in healthcare, education, security, housing, agriculture, and economic reforms as evidence of his capacity to lead at the national level.
They also urged the public to ignore what they described as “unfounded speculations” about Makinde’s reluctance to run, calling such narratives “misguided.”
“The call for Governor Makinde to contest in 2027 goes beyond politics. It is a national appeal for competent leadership—one that bridges party lines, ethnic divisions, and religious differences to rescue Nigeria from further decline,” Odianarewo added.
