Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke on Wednesday alleged that an attempt was made on his life at the Osogbo Eid playing ground.
The Governor in a statement by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, thanked God for preserving him and his team, directing law enforcement agents to arrest the culprits behind the incident.
The governor appealed for calm, saying the situation was under control.
“My good people of Osun, I appeal for calm and urge us to continue to celebrate the Sallah festival in peace. I am safe by the special grace of God.
“I have directed security agencies to arrest those behind the incident and get them to face the wrath of the law. The Commissioner of Police has been directed to arrest those involved no matter how highly placed,” the governor was quoted as saying.
WesternPost gathered that the mild drama at Eid ground prevented the Governor from observing the two voluntary Rakat.
The drama, which caused a little disruption before the prayer was held, was occasioned by argument that ensued over sitting arrangement involving one of the governor’s loyalist and the immediate past Senate spokesperson, Ajibola Basiru.
It was gathered that Basiru was already seated at the prayer ground located at Oke-Baale area in Osogbo when the loyalist allegedly confronted him to leave the front space where he was sitting that the space was meant for the governor.
The situation had still not been brought under control when the governor arrived and after sometime, he had to leave and could not observe the Eid prayer.
But no one was hurt during the hot argument that ensued.
When the fray nerves were calmed, the grand Imam of Osogbo, Sheikh Musa Animasahun led the congregation in prayer.
