Senator Natasha rejects out-of-court settlement in case against Akpabio

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has rejected a proposal for an out-of-court settlement in her ongoing case against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The proposal was made by renowned legal practitioner Dr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), who is representing Akpabio in the matter. Agbakoba also urged the senator to provide further evidence to substantiate her claims, which he said remain unproven.

Speaking to The Nation on Monday, the Kogi Central lawmaker firmly dismissed the idea of settling the case outside the courtroom.

“Out-of-court settlement? Settle how? With whom? What about how I felt? I don’t think I’m looking for an out-of-court settlement—not today,” she said. “Nobody should have to suffer this level of intimidation just for speaking her truth.”

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan insisted that the case is about justice, not reconciliation, and called on the Senate President to submit himself to a thorough investigation.

“It is not about settlement; it is about justice. Akpabio is damaging the image of the President. His actions are sending a negative signal about President Tinubu’s government,” she added.

In response, Agbakoba stated that the senator has yet to provide concrete evidence to support her allegations. Speaking to journalists in Lagos, he emphasized the need for further particulars.

“We request Senator Natasha to provide more evidence, particularly in line with her previous public statements, where she said she reserved the right to submit additional proof,” he said.
