Akwa Ibom monarch condoles with Oyo govt over Alaafin’s demise

By Richard Thomas, Ibadan

The Obong Iberedem Akwa Ibom in Oyo State, Edidem Etim Bassey Akanyak has commiserated with the Oyo Sstate government and the families of late Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi 111, who joined his ancestors on Friday.

The Akwa Ibom monarch described the demise of the first class Oba as a huge loss to the country, especially the Yoruba race.

“We have lost another great monarch and a father of the entire Yoruba race. His reign in 52 years was peaceful and full with many wonderful developments. We shall miss him in a great deal,” Obong Akanyak said.

The Obong urged people of the state to rally round the families of the late monarch and the state government at this trying period to comfort them.

Obong Akanyak prayed God to grant the state government and families of the late king the fortitude to bear the loss.

Oba Adeyemi’s death occurred after two other senior monarchs-the Olubadan of Ibadan, Saliu Adetunji, and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Jimoh Oyewumi-died in less than five months apart.
