Amnesty International blames govt inaction as 54 die in Plateau attack

Amnesty International has confirmed that 54 people were killed in a deadly attack on Kimakpa village in Miango district, Bassa LGA of Plateau State.
In a statement on Monday, the rights group said more bodies are still being recovered, and a mass burial is being planned. Hundreds of residents have been displaced, with many living in fear of further violence.
Amnesty criticized the Nigerian government for failing to protect vulnerable communities, noting that security efforts under President Bola Tinubu’s administration are ineffective. It called for a full investigation into the attacks.
Between December 2023 and February 2024, the organization reported 1,336 deaths and over 29,000 displaced persons in Plateau alone.
The latest attack follows similar incidents in Bokkos and Mangu LGAs, where scores were killed and homes destroyed.
