APC accuses PDP of using FG’s palliatives to bribe voters in Bayelsa

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is using the palliatives provided by the Federal Government to bribe voters in Bayelsa State ahead of the governorship election on Saturday.

In a press statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, Esq., the APC claimed that Governor Duoye Diri, the PDP candidate, had hoarded the palliatives for months and was now distributing them to influence the electorate.

The APC said that Governor Diri had betrayed and failed the people of Bayelsa by withholding the palliatives, which were meant to cushion the effects of the subsidy removal, for the purpose of electoral manipulation.

The statement read: “After months of hoarding the palliatives provided by the Federal Government to cushion the effects of the subsidy removal, Governor Duoye Diri, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is now offloading and distributing truckloads of palliatives hours to Saturday governorship election clearly aimed at illegally unfairly inducing voters in the state.”

The APC also called on the security agencies to investigate the reports of stockpiling of arms and ammunition by the PDP leaders and chieftains, who were allegedly plotting to disrupt the electoral process and intimidate voters, especially in the APC strongholds.

The statement further read: “We urge the relevant security agencies to urgently and thoroughly investigate reports of alleged stockpiling of arms and ammunition by leaders and chieftains of the PDP amid rife plots to disrupt the electoral process and intimidate voters, particularly in APC voting strongholds.”

The APC urged the Bayelsan people to reject Governor Diri’s treachery and deny him the mandate to continue in office.

The statement concluded: “We also urge the Bayelsan electorate to reciprocate Governor’s Diri’s treachery by denying him the mandate to continue in office.”
