Appeal Court to deliver judgment on Osun guber election tomorrow

The Court of Appeal will on Friday (tomorrow) deliver its judgment on the Osun State governorship election.

According to a statement in Abuja, the judgement will be delivered at 12 noon, with both parties in the suit already informed.

WesternPost had earlier reported that the Appeal Court last week reserved judgment in the appeal of Osun State Governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election, Ademola Adeleke.

Adeleke is challenging the ruling of the Election Petititon Tribunal which declared All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Gboyega Oyetola as the winner of the election.

Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal had on January  27, voided the July 16, 2022, election that produced Adeleke as the elected governor.

INEC had declared Adeleke the winner of the election after polling 403,371 votes. He was said to have won in 17 of the 30 local government areas in the state.

But the election tribunal, led by Justice Terste Kume, in its judgment, invalidated the election and declared Mr Gboyega Oyetola as the valid winner of the poll.

The tribunal directed INEC to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to Adeleke and his deputy, Kola Adewusi, both of whom had been sworn in.

It directed that the Certificate of Return should instead be issued to Oyetola.
