Remembrance Day: Sanwo-Olu pledges more support for military

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday said the Lagos State government would continue to give support to the military, noting that without their support it would be difficult to maintain territorial integrity of the nation.

Sanwo-Olu gave the remark during the grand finale of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony at Remembrance Arcade, TBS, Lagos.

The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Dr Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, said the state government appreciated the efforts of the military and other paramilitary agencies.

The event which was attended by the wives of the fallen heroes and other family members witnessed the laying of wreaths by Hamzat and other state officials.

The deputy governor also inspected the guards of honour and the release of white pigeons symbolizing peace. The event also witnessed the 21-gun salutes.

Addressing journalists shortly after the ceremony, Hamzat thanked the military for keeping the unity of Nigeria.

He said: “The people and government of Lagos State appreciate all the efforts of our military in protecting the integrity of our country. Without them, we really cannot do much.

“Lagos as a state has always and will always support the military and all the para-military agencies that are ensuring at secuing our state.

“All the same, we remember the wives of those who have departed while defending the territorial Integrity of our country.”
