Bauchi Police arrests man over alleged killing of officer’s son

Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a 20-year-old man, Rabiu Adamu, accused of strangling a kidnapped boy to death.

Disclosing this in a statement, Spokesperson for the command, SP Ahmed Wakil, revealed the incident took place in Magaman Gumau, Toro Local Government Area.

The command disclosed that Christopher Bala, a 12-year-old son of a police officer, ASP Bala Yarima, was abducted while running an errand.

Upon receiving the report, Toro Division detectives swiftly initiated a rescue operation, leading to the arrest of a 20 year old suspect identified as Rabiu Adamu.

Further investigations into events leading up to the kidnap and murder of the child, uncovered a disturbing connection between Adamu, the victim, and the victim’s family, along with the extortion of N200,000 in ransom.

The suspect upon interrogation, confessed to the abduction, murder, and burial of Christopher, stating his reason for murder as fearing recognition by the now deceased Christopher.

The Spokesperson revealed the command had exhumed the victim’s remains, and a postmortem was conducted at the General Hospital Toro, which confirmed the cause of death as strangulation.

According to the statement, the case is now with the Criminal Investigation Department, under the directive of Commissioner of Police Auwal Musa, who expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family, assuring them that a relentless pursuit of justice was underway.

The police also urged residents on the importance of vigilance in choosing associates while stating the force’s resolve to combat crime in the state.
