BREAKING: Fallen container kills cart pusher in Lagos

A cart pusher was on Sunday crushed by a fallen container at Dopemu, Lagos State.

It was gathered that the container, fully loaded with concrete stones fell on the cart pusher who died instantly.

WesternPost learnt that the driver of the truck carrying the container lost control while dragging the road on top speed with another trailer.

The container subsequently fell off the truck, blocking the entire BRT corridor inward Dopemu.

The remains of the cart pusher have been recovered by operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

According to the LASTMA official who led the rescue team, Badmus Abdul-Akeem, the driver of the fallen truck ran away while a photocopy of his driver’s license was retrieved at the accident scene.


Abdul-Akeem said: “After noticing a trapped body underneath a fallen container, we called the LASEMA Response Unit (LRU) and Policemen from Gowon Divisional Police Headquarters for immediate rescue operations and investigations.

“While LASEMA Response Unit (LRU) evacuated the fallen container off the BRT corridor, the recovered dead was handed over to members of the Hausa community around Dopemu area after they mobilized themselves to the scene of the accident with dangerous weapons.”

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Bolaji Oreagba while consoling with the family of the deceased urged truck drivers and other motoring public to always adhere strictly to safety standard while driving on highways across the state.

He maintained that speed limit road signs were erected to guide truck drivers and other motoring public on speed limitations across the state.
