Brother kills 12-year old sibling as gun protective charm failed test

Kwara State Police Command is on the trail of one Abubakar Abubakar who shot his younger sibling, Yusuf Abubakar (12), dead in the process of testing the efficacy of a newly procured gunshot protective charm.

The two siblings, according to the police, are sons of a hunter, also known as Abubakar Abubakar in Dutse Gogo town via Kaiama, Kaiama Local Government Area of the state. 

A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Okasanmi Ajayi, said the culprit after committing the act with his father’s dane gun, escaped into the bush.

He said the command has launched a manhunt for the fleeting suspect while investigation into the incident continue. 

The statement reads: “At about 2200hrs, of 2/10/2022, a report was received at Kaiama police station about the killing of one Yusuf Abubakar, aged 12 years, by his elder brother named Abubakar Abubakar, both sons of one Abubakar Abubakar, a hunter in Dutse Gogo town via Kaiama, during the process of testing the efficacy of a newly procured gunshot protective charm.

“This incident happened after fortifying themselves with the protective charm. The elder son brought his father’s dane gun and shot his younger sibling. The charm failed and the 12-year old Yusuf Abubakar died on the spot. 

“The culprit escaped into the bushes immediately the act was committed. 

“Investigation into the matter have commenced as directed by the Commissioner of Police Kwara State, Paul Odama.

“Parents and guardians are advised to monitor the activities of their children and avoid doing certain unsavory activities while their children and wards watches, to prevent incidents of this nature.”
