Court remands 37-year old man for alleged rape, threat to kill 4-year-old girl in Osun

An Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo has ordered that a 37-year-old man, Abiodun Babatunde be remanded in Ilesa correctional center for alleged sexual assault of a 4-year-old girl. 

The suspect was arraigned on a four count-charge bordering on unlawful intercourse, sexual assault and threat to life. 

Police prosecutor, Elisha Olusegun told the court that the defendant unlawfully and sexually assaulted a 4-year-old girl on 20th August 2022, at Surulere Street, Ikirun, Osun State. 

He said that the defendant also threatened to murder the victim if she mentioned the assault to anybody after the incident.

Olusegun stated further that the assault’s scope was wider because the victim undergone surgery to become fit. 

According to the prosecutor, the alleged offences contravened Sections 31(1)(2) and 32 of the Child’s Rights law of Osun State 2007 as well as sections 360 and 86 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. A.O Odeleye did not take the plea of the defendant as she ordered him to be remanded in Ilesa correctional center. 

Odeleye then adjourned the case to 3rd November for legal advice from the office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
