Democracy is about improving lives of people, Kagame, Lee declare in joint press statement

President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong said that the purpose of a democratic government is to improve the quality of life of citizens that voted leaders into public office.
Both leaders made the declaration during a joint press conference in Kigali as part of the activities for the State visit of the Singaporean leader to the East Africa country.
Prime Minister Lee arrived Kigali for the Commonwealth Heads of State Summit which ended on Sunday, June 26 and began a formal State visit as the first leader of Singapore to undertake a state visit to Rwanda.

At the joint press conference, Kagame said: “Democracy may mean one thing, a broad thing, but it expresses itself in many ways. At the end of the day what we need is, ‘has there been a difference made for the people?’ because we are talking about people, it’s not just whether you like me or you don’t like me.
“Staying the course comes from the fact that you understand what you have to do and the country and the people have to understand what they want, what are their aspirations, where have they come from, where do they want to go?”
