Deposed Kano Emirs angry due to loss of privileges – Sanusi

The 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, has expressed understanding for the dissatisfaction of Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero and other deposed emirs, citing the loss of the privileges they once enjoyed.
In an interview with Saturday Sun, Sanusi elaborated on the emotional and social impacts of the dethronements, stating, “What we are dealing with is a situation where somebody divided us. And actually, when you create these things, some people get some privileges. They didn’t ask for it, but they’ve enjoyed it for four years. Now when they lose it, it’s a problem.”
Sanusi and Bayero have both laid claim to the throne of the Kano Emirate, a position historically fraught with political and social significance.
Sanusi suggested that the current discord stems from actions taken four years ago, which he believes unnecessarily divided their family and created instability.
“If it had not been done, we would not be in this situation today. We are one family, we are one people. Somebody comes, divides us up. Even in this family, he takes one emirate, gives it to a part of the family. Now, when people enjoy it for four years and you take it away from them, it becomes a problem,” he remarked.
The ongoing turmoil saw a notable development on Friday when a Federal High Court in Kano awarded N10 million in compensation to Bayero for his arrest and eviction from the palace.
This ruling follows the actions of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who last month dethroned Ado Bayero and ordered him to vacate the palace within 48 hours.
