The 25-year marriage between former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, and Admiral Alison Madueke has come to an end.

Admiral Madueke, a former Chief of Naval Staff, recently filed a petition in the Lagos State High Court seeking a legal declaration of the dissolution of their marriage.

Their union, which began on June 30, 1999, and produced one son, Ugonna Alison-Madueke, is now facing legal scrutiny as Admiral Madueke requests that Diezani cease using his last name and revert to her maiden name, Agama. This demand is part of his petition for jactitation of marriage, a legal declaration that the marital union has ended.

Admiral Madueke, who also served as a military governor of Anambra and Imo states, argues that Diezani’s continued use of his surname damages his reputation, especially in light of the corruption allegations against her.

He expressed concern that her actions could lead to unintended consequences, including mistaken liability.

Despite the legal proceedings, neither Admiral Madueke nor Diezani have publicly disclosed the reasons behind the dissolution of their marriage.
