Doctor says incurable disease will kill me in 5 years – Actress Kemi Afolabi

Actress, Kemi Afolabi, has disclosed that doctor has told her she would die in five years after being diagnosed with lupus.

In an interview with Chude Jideonwo, she said she had already lived one of the five years, not knowing how long she has left.

“I have lupus. It’s not curable. You just have to take medications for the rest of your life,” she said.

She also added that the doctor told her, “Make sure you are with your loved ones. At least, you still have up to five years.”

The actress who explained how she landed in the hospital; said she was on admission for over two months before she could be disgnosed.

“To think that something happened and the period in my life that I was very excited because I had just moved to my home. I had my housewarming January 24, 2021 and by 26th. I was very tired and I thought it was the stress of moving, so I just decided to relax but it was getting bad and I was feeling very week, so, I called my doctor that I think it wasn’t just about tiredness and relaxing at home.

“I went to the hospital and I noticed that when they were about to take my blood sample, my blood was clotting and they tried to neutralize the blood until they were able to take it, but they could not see what was going on, so I did a couple of tests and one thing I noticed was that I couldn’t breathe when I was about going home and I became unconscious.

“When I woke up, I found myself at LUTH. Later, I was told I was rushed to LASUTH from my hospital and that they didn’t have bed space, then to Army Hospital, Yaba, then to LUTH. I was told that I was being treated from the car at LUTH until they eventually got a space in a private ward. When I woke up, I was on Oxygen.

“We ran a lot of tests and the first one to two months at LUTH, I didn’t know what the problem was, I don’t think there is any test in this world that I did not do, but different doctors kept coming, they were asking questions and I was writing the answers for them. One of these doctors eventually came and he was able to tell me the kind of tests I could run and that test was done in South Africa. We had to wait to two weeks or thereabouts for the results to come out.

“I knew something was wrong because I had between 11 and 15 doctors when they wanted to tell me the result. I even thought it was something worse than what it was, because I am an actor and I could tell when something was wrong. Eventually, they were asking me questions like do I still want to have more babies, how many kids do I have.

“So I was told that there is a risk if I want to have more babies, because what they were about to tell me, I would have to stay away from a lot of things,” Afolabi added.
