Edo Guber: INEC publishes particulars, credentials of 17 candidates
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Saturday published the personal particulars and credentials of 17 nominated candidates and their deputies for the Edo State Governorship election.
The candidates’ personal particulars were published at INEC State headquarters in Benin and 18 local government offices in the State.
INEC said the action was in line with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022.
Meanwhile, the Commission had in a statement issued by Mr. Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), announced that 17 political parties successfully uploaded their candidates’ nomination forms by the deadline of 6pm on 24th March when the dedicated portal automatically shut down.
The statement also affirmed that the personal particulars of the Governorship candidates and their running mates would be published a week from the submission of nominations (30th March).
The Commission urged Nigerians to scrutinize the documents, adding “Any aspirant that participated in his or her party primaries with reasonable grounds to believe that the information provided by the nominated candidate is false can also challenge the nomination in a Federal High Court as provided in Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022”.
The Edo State governorship election is scheduled for Saturday 21st September 2024.
