The Edo House of Assembly, the Speaker, Rt. Hon Blessing Agbebaku, wielded his gavel on Monday during plenary, suspending three lawmakers amidst allegations of a plot to impeach him and other Principal Officers of the House.

The suspended lawmakers, identified as Hon Donald Okugbe representing Akoko-Edo I, Hon Bright Iyamu from Orihonmwon South, and Hon Adeh Isibor representing Esan North East I, all members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), were accused of being influenced by external forces aiming to disrupt the peace and stability of the assembly.

During the session, Agbebaku claimed that the trio had conspired to overthrow the house leadership, alleging that some individuals even resorted to mystical means by bringing native doctors into the assembly complex to perform rituals under the cloak of darkness.

The suspension prompted a heated exchange, with the suspended lawmakers vehemently protesting, asserting the Speaker’s lack of unilateral authority to suspend members without a vote.

Amidst the chaos, they demanded a democratic process of voting on the matter, echoing their discontent with the Speaker’s decision.
