EXCLUSIVE: Fayemi eyes Ekiti North Senatorial District

By Okunade Adekunle

After failing to bag any appointment in President Bola Tinubu administration, former Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, is now angling to contest for the Ekiti North Senatorial District in the next election.

Fayemi is moving to replace Senator Cyril Fasuyi who presently represents the senatorial district in the National Assembly.
Both of them are members of the governing All Progressives Congress.

The former Ekiti State governor, who was also Minister of Solid Minerals in President Muhammadu Buhari regime before he resigned to contest for his second term in office as governor, is keeping the senatorial ambition a closely guarded secret.

WESTERN POST can, however, report today that the former governor has fully activated the plan to contest for the senatorial slot.

Impeccable sources told WESTERN POST that he had begun calling meetings of his ‘boys’ and oiling his machinery for the election.

“One of such meetings held about two weeks ago in his country-home in Isan-Ekiti,” one of the sources told the newspaper.

If elected as Senator, his victory may likely herald his return to take full control of Ekiti State politics.

Fayemi was defeated by Mr. Ayodele Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party on June 21, 2014, thus scuttling his second term in office.

But on July 14, 2018, he roared back to power in the ensuing election, defeating Mr. Segun Oni who contested on PDP platform.

Fayemi played an important role in the build-up to the emergence of President Tinubu on the saddle on May 29, 2023, but he has yet to be compensated with any appointment.
