The Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has expressed the Authority’s commitment to supporting Plateau State in its efforts to become a major hub for agricultural produce and boost Nigeria’s economy through the Aviacargo business.

She  made this pledge during a reception for Plateau State Governor, Mr. Caleb Mutfwang, at the Yakubu Gowon International Airport in Jos.

Leading a delegation of top FAAN management staff, she highlighted Plateau State’s rich agricultural potential, emphasizing its suitability for both local and international trade.

The CEO of FAAN assured the state government of the Authority’s readiness to collaborate in establishing a cargo terminal. She also advised the state to begin marketing its agricultural products even before the major cargo handling infrastructure is fully developed.

“Your Excellency, Plateau State is poised to stand as one of Nigeria’s leaders in producing and transporting agricultural produce,” Kuku stated.

She affirmed FAAN’s readiness to collaborate closely with the state government and the expanded Aviacargo team.

While acknowledging the need for major cargo infrastructure, Kuku emphasized that the state should not wait for its full development. “Let’s start within our immediate environments,” she suggested

She further proposed that the state begin marketing its perishable items and create market days when people from across the country can fly in to purchase these products.

“This will encourage investments in testing, packaging, crating, storing, and transporting produce nationwide. The possibilities are endless,” Kuku said.

Governor Mutfwang expressed his gratitude to Mrs. Kuku for FAAN’s enthusiasm for the cargo initiative and pledged to work tirelessly to realize the state’s ambitions.

In a statement, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, noted that Mrs. Kuku used the visit to tour the airport facilities and engage with the staff, underscoring the positive and productive nature of the discussions.
