FCT Police deploys officers amid alleged bandit invasion threat

In response to an alleged planned invasion by bandits, the Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Benneth Igweh, has mobilized officers and resources across Abuja.

This action follows a warning message recently circulating on WhatsApp, claiming that bandits, led by a sub-commander named Ardo, are advancing towards the city.

The WhatsApp alert, shared on Sunday and Monday, detailed that Ardo, a lieutenant of the notorious bandit leader Boderi Yellow mai One Million, is leading a group from Kweri Forest in Kagarko, Kaduna State, towards the Gauraka/Kubwa Hills in FCT.

The message also highlighted the escape of an 18-year-old named Inusa Lawal from the bandits’ camp, who confirmed the presence of 10 hostages, including individuals kidnapped from Dawaki and Dakwa.

Lawal’s escape has triggered heightened security measures, with intelligence reports indicating that Ardo and his gang are targeting areas within the FCT, including Kubwa, Zuba, and Mpape.

The bandits, reportedly frustrated by unpaid ransoms and in desperate need of funds for the upcoming Sallah, are believed to be planning more aggressive actions.

In light of these threats, security agencies have been urged to intensify patrols, particularly around the Bwari Area Council. The alert underscores the need for collaborative efforts to thwart any potential attacks.

Responding to the situation, FCT Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh, released a statement on Monday.

She conveyed CP Igweh’s appreciation for the public’s vigilance and emphasized the importance of continued cooperation with law enforcement.

“The FCT Police Command has noted the social media reports regarding the suspected entry of bandits into the Federal Capital Territory. CP Igweh thanks the public for their environmental alertness and urges residents to provide useful information to the police to help combat insecurity in the area,” Adeh said.

She assured residents that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure their safety and urged them to continue their daily activities without fear.

The police command has also deployed both material and physical assets to prevent any attacks and secure the nation’s capital.
