FEC grants approval for concessioning of Abuja, Kano airports

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has granted approval for the concessioning of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja and the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano.
The decision was reached during a meeting held on Wednesday and chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Hadi Sirika, the Minister of Aviation, addressed journalists after the meeting, stating that the concessioning of the airports will be carried out for specific durations.
The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja will be concessioned for a period of 20 years, while the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano will be concessioned for a duration of 30 years.
In addition to the approval for the concessioning, the council also granted approval for a name change of the ministry. The former “Federal Ministry of Aviation” will now be known as the “Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace of Nigeria.”
Furthermore, the council approved the draft of the national civil aviation policy, which aims to enhance the civil aviation sector’s capabilities and effectiveness.
Last week, the FEC approved the allocation of N449.9 million for engaging consultants to develop a master plan for 17 airports across Nigeria.
