FG temporarily suspends proposed $300 helicopter landing fee

The Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has announced the temporary suspension of the contentious $300 helicopter landing fee.

This decision follows strong opposition from the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), who argued that the fee was commercially damaging.

According to a statement by the Ministry detailing the suspension, a committee has been established to review the concerns raised by stakeholders and is expected to submit a report by the end of June.

“Following a meeting with the AON executive on the issue of helicopter landing levies at aerodromes, helipads, airstrips, etc., Minister Festus Keyamo has temporarily suspended the enforcement granted to Messers NAEBI Dynamic Concept Ltd by the Federal Government.

“The suspension is effective from May 30, 2024, due to calls for a review from industry stakeholders,” the statement read.

The committee, comprising members from the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, its relevant agencies, the AON, International Oil Companies (IOCs), and Messers NAEBI Dynamic Concept Ltd, has been tasked with addressing the issues raised by concerned parties and proposing findings that will help determine the future of the landing fee policy.

Recall that Messers NAEBI Dynamic Concept Ltd had been granted the exclusive right to collect these levies, a decision that has faced significant backlash regarding its appropriateness.

The committee’s recommendations are anticipated to provide a way forward for all involved.
