Fire incident truncates Zenith Bank operations nationwide as customers lament

The fire incident that occurred at Zenith Bank’s head office in Lagos on Wednesday has disrupted the lender’s business activities nationwide, WesternPost gathered.

A visit to some the bank’s branches within Ogun and Lagos states on Thursday morning revealed that customers of the bank were stranded outside as both ATM, among other services were not functioning.

The bank’s customers in Agege in Lagos were lamenting over the recent poor services of Nigeria’s biggest bank by market capitalisation and profits.

A top official of the bank confirmed to WesternPost that the fire incident was a natural occurrence, stressing that the management of the bunk is working on restoring services nationwide.

He stated that some branches have commenced banking operations, while engineers are working on restoring order.

The management of the bank in a statement said:” We hereby report that there was a  fire incident this morning (Wednesday) at our storage facility in Victoria Island, which is completely isolated from our head office complex and this led to a temporary outage.

“Banking services are being restored as normalcy returns. The inconvenience to our esteemed customers and other stakeholders arising from this incident are highly regretted.” 

In a statement on Wednesday, Margaret Adeseye, director of Lagos Fire and Rescue Service said her team was at the scene of the incident to put out the fire which was reported around 7:25am.

She noted that the fire was doused before it could spread and cause “any meaningful damage”.
