Five abducted Abuja sisters regain freedom

Five of the six sisters from the Al-Kadriyar family, who were recently abducted by bandits in the Bwari area of Abuja, have been released.

This was revealed in a post on X by Kabiru Aminu, who identifies himself as the family’s uncle saying the girls were released on Saturday night.

The post included the sisters in a now-viral video among other family members who were singing and dancing in celebration of the girls’ release.

“#Najeebahandhersisters are home right now, someone please wake me up!” his post reads.

Although it is unclear if the girls were rescued by security operatives or were released after their family paid ransom.

One of the six sisters, Nabeeha, was murdered on Sunday by the abductors, who claimed to have done so as a warning to the family for failing to pay the N60 million ransom.

The incident had elicited wild reaction, with many Nigeria on social media soliciting for funding for the release of the girls.

WesternPost reported that President Bola Tinubu met with service chiefs in the country on Tuesday at the Aso Villa.

Speaking on the case of kidnapping in FCT, the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has stated that the practice of individuals initiating and raising finances for the release of kidnapped victims in captives of armed men is unsustainable.
