Former Super Eagles captain, coach Christian Chukwu passes away at 74

Renowned former Nigerian footballer and ex-coach of the Super Eagles, Christian Chukwu, is dead.
The news of his passing was announced by football legend, Dr. Segun Odegbami, MON, on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
In his words, “My Chairman has passed on. I just received the news that between 9:00 and 10:00 this morning, ‘Chairman’ Christian Chukwu, MFR, my bosom friend and teammate, one of the greatest football players in Nigeria’s football history, former captain and coach of Nigeria’s national football team, has passed on.”
According to Odegbami, the news was delivered to him by fellow ex-international, Emmanuel Okala, MON.
“Babuje, Emmanuel Okala, MON, gave me the sad news a few minutes ago. May ‘Onyim’ find peace with our Creator in Heaven and may his family be comforted,” Odegbami added.
