FUOYE to honour APC National Secretary Basiru with Special Meritorous Service Award

THE National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru has been nominated by the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State for its highest meritorious service Awards 2024.

The nomination was contained in a letter with reference number: FUOYE/VC/CONV/16/Col. IV/310 dated 12th January 2024 and signed by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fashina.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Ajibola’s Media Assistant, Akeem Yusuff said that Ajibola was nominated for the university’s Special Meritorous Service Award for Deserving Personalities because of his illustrious and exemplary leadership service in contemporary Nigeria, and his impacts on the lives of young people.

The university’s letter read: “On behalf of the Senate, Staff and Students of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, I have the pleasure to invite you to the Vice-Chancellor’s Special Meritorous Service Awards to deserving personalities in Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State on Friday, 9th February 2024 as part of the events marking the 8th Convocation Ceremony of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti.

“Having been an illustrious person and an exemplary leader in contemporary Nigeria with positive impacts on the lives of the vast majority of the people, as well as serving as a role model of emulation to the young people through your enormous contributions to the growth of the society, the University Management desires to confer on your highly esteemed self a Special Meritorous Award in Public Administration.”

The APC scribe was born on 1st July 1972 into the family of late Basiru Akanmu Adebayo of Odofin Compound in Osogbo, Osun State.

He had his early childhood and secondary education in Osogbo.

A distinguished legal scholar and author, Basiru holds a Bachelor’s of Law Degree (LL.B) from the University of Lagos, and Barrister-at-law (B.L) from the Nigerian Law School, Abuja. At the Nigerian Law School, he won the Third Overall Best Student Award and the Graham Douglas Prize for Best Student in Company Law and Practice.

After obtaining a Master’s Degree in Law, he went further to obtain a PhD in Private and Property Law. Part of his Ph.D thesis has been published as Secured Finance Law in Nigeria.

He worked with Olaniwun Ajayi Chambers, where he horned his career before joining M.A. Banire & Associates as a partner.

In 2011, he was appointed as Commissioner for Regional integration and Special Duties in Osun State and in 2017, he was appointed as Attoney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Osun State.

In January 2019, Basiru was elected on the platform of the APC as Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District and he served as the Spokesperson of the 9th Senate. A legal scholar, Dr Basiru has many books and articles to his credit.
