Governorship race: INEC declared results for 24 states, APC wins 15

All Progressives Congress (APC) is leading in the governorship election, which took place on Saturday, 18 March.

Governorship elections were held in 28 states across the country. From the results of 24 states announced so far by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), APC has won 15 states, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), 7 and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), 1.

Results from four states are still being expected.

In the North East, APC won in Gombe, Yobe, and Borno. PDP won Taraba and Bauchi, while results for Adamawa is still being expected

Of the seven states in the North West, APC won in four, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kaduna, Katsina, while Kano was won by NNPP. Results from Zamfara was still being expected, while the election in Kebbi State was declared inconclusive.

In the South East, elections took place in Enugu, won by PDP, while Ebonyi is in the kitty of the APC. Results for Abia has not yet been declared.

PDP won Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Delta States in the South South, which has always been its traditional stronghold along with the South East. However, APC retains Cross River State.

In North Centra, APC won in Nasarawa, Niger, Benue and Kwara states while PDP triumphed in Plateau State.

In the South West, PDP won Oyo State, while APC was the winner in Lagos and Ogun states.

Surprisingly, Labour Party, despite its descent showing, especially in the South East and South South during the presidential election seemed to have fizzle out as it is yet to win any governorship seat.
