Group calls on stakeholders to support gender equality, inclusive governance

A Non-Governmental Organization, Hope for Family Development Initiatives (HFDI), has called on stakeholders at all levels to work collaboratively to support women’s leadership and ensure that women have an equal voice in shaping the future of the country.

Speaking at an advocacy meeting with relevant stakeholders in Osun State, the Program Manager of HFDI in the state, Adeola Falana, noted that women’s political participation is crucial for achieving gender equality and inclusive governance.

Falana, who was represented by Abisola Ariwodoola, volunteer communication manager, however said, women in South West, Nigeria still faces significant gender disparities in political representation.

She noted that empowering female elected candidates is essential for enhancing women’s voices in decision-making processes and promoting a more equitable society.

Falana, disclosed that HFDI, under the leadership of Ambassador Dr Aremu Stephen Akinyele in collaboration with other women’s groups would be training women in campaign strategies, leadership skills, and political engagements.

The project, she said will be implemented in South West Nigeria, particularly in Osun, Ekiti and Oyo State.

According to her, “Advancing Women’s Political Participation through Female Elected Candidates in the South West Nigeria project is a project to be implemented by Hope for Family Development Initiatives HFDI in collaboration with Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen, ifa, and Federal Republic of Germany Foreign Office.

“The project is aimed at increasing the participation of women in political processes thereby promoting gender equality. The project will be implementing capacity building trainings for women aspirants, town halls meeting with community stakeholders, consultative meeting with stakeholders and sensitization workshops for young girls on the importance of women’s involvement in politics.”
