Gunmen abduct high court judge, wife in Borno, says reports

Gunmen have reportedly abducted Haruna Mshelia, a high court judge, in Biu LGA of Borno state.

The judge, along with his wife, driver, and orderly, were allegedly abducted along the Biu-Maiduguri route, according to a report published by The Cable on Tuesday.

According to Borno police spokesperson Daso Nahum, the incident happened on Friday morning at around nine in the morning.

“On 21st of June, 2024, at about 9am, the Honourable Justice, his wife, orderly and driver were kidnapped along Biu-Maiduguri Road, specifically at Jiba town,” Nahum said.

“On reaching Jiba town, some unknown armed men stopped them and kidnapped them alongside two other commuter vehicles. So they were taken away to the bush.”

A manhunt for the gunmen and an inquiry has begun, according to a police official.

Nahum went on to say that all the security measures are being put in place by the police to guarantee the hostages’ safe rescue.

“The police are in collaboration with other security forces, the military, the DSS and community members, to see how we can track the culprits and retrieve the victims,” he added.
