How family planning helped my child bearing journey- 20yr old mother of two

A twenty year old mother of two, Sadia Aminu has explained how family planning has helped her child bearing journey.

She disclosed that she up took Intra Uterine Devices (IUD), method of family planning.

Aminu said she got the gospel of family planning when she went for immunisation some years ago.

The housewife whose first child is eight years old, has another six years old and she’s currently pregnant.

Aminu disclosed this while speaking with a team of Journalists on investigative field trip by Media Advocacy Group on FP in Kwara, at the Okelele Primary Health Care Centre in Ilorin.

Speaking with the team, the Ilorin East Local Government Area Family Planning (FP) Supervisor Hajia Mariam Balogun, disclosed that more people on daily basis are recorded accessing Family Planning services.

The health worker said in the last six months, the centre has recorded about 300 people who came to access various Family Planning methods on child spacing.

She added that that the number is increasing on daily basis as more people are becoming aware of the merits of the methods.

Balogun added that with the help of The Challenge Initiative, Nigeria (TCI), the FP consumables are given freely to the clients.

The FP supervisor said that some parents bring their adolescent children to receive FP counseling and consumables to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

She listed some of the contraceptive methods to includes Male condom, Female condom,Implant, Injectable, Intra Uterine Devices (IUD), Oral Contraception Pills, Tubal ligation and Vasectomy.

She urged parents to help their adolescent wards against sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy through Family Planning contraceptives.

She noted that there are still misconceptions on the contraceptives and methods due to lack of knowledge by some people about Family Planning.

Balogun emphasized that it is safe to use Family Planning contraceptives while any side effects would be taken care of at the healthcare facilities.

Similarly, the Community Mobilizer on Family Planning at Okelele Primary Healthcare Centre Mrs Memunat Isiaka, highlighted the importance of mobilizing and enlightening the publics on importance of Family Planning.

She added that the enlightenment has led to increased number of clients who up take one family planning method or the other.
