Jet carrying VIPs overshoots runway in Ibadan

A private jet carrying about 10 people, including some VIPs, went off the runway and into the bush at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

The incident occurred on Friday morning around 11 am.

The jet, with the registration number N580KR, had flown from Abuja and was trying to land when it missed the runway.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) quickly sent firefighters and rescue workers to the scene. Fortunately, no one was injured or killed in the accident.

Carol Adekotujo, a spokesperson for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), who spoke to Channels TV over the phone, said, “It was a private plane from Abuja. It landed safely but overshot the runway. There was no casualty.”

Tunji Oketunmbi, a spokesman for the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), confirmed the incident and said that a team had been sent to the site to investigate the cause.

It will be recalled that this was not the first of such incident in recent times as the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, survived a plane crash at the same airport in November.
