Kaduna Assembly begins investigation of projects under El-Rufai

A committee established by the Kaduna State House of Assembly to scrutinize the financial activities during Nasir el-Rufai’s tenure as governor has initiated its probe.

Consisting of 13 members, the committee’s mandate, set forth in April, encompasses examining loans, grants, and project execution between 2015 and 2023.

Suraj Bamalli, spokesperson for the Kaduna Assembly’s speaker, Yusuf Liman, disclosed this development in an official statement on Tuesday.

According to him, the committee had begun its fact-finding mission by conducting clarification sessions and engaging with current and former government officials, including notable figures like Honorable Manzo Maigari and Hajia Balaraba Aliyu.

Recall that Governor Uba Sani recently revealed inheriting substantial debt and contractual liabilities totaling $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual obligations from el-Rufai’s administration.

This debt burden, he asserted, significantly impacts the state’s monthly federation allocation.

The statement further explained that the Assembly’s inquiry aims to ensure transparency and accountability in governance, with assurances of adherence to the highest standards throughout the process.
