Kidnappers fall asleep after abducting victims, land in police net

Akure police detectives have apprehended five suspected kidnappers who fell asleep after abducting a pastor’s wife and two other individuals, in a dramatic turn of events.

The suspects, identified as Garuba Mumuni (27), Yusuf Tale (21), Kabiru Muhammed (16), Shaibu Umar, and Adamu Mohammed (22), allegedly succumbed to drowsiness induced by hard drugs they had consumed.

According to Ondo State police sources, the victims managed to escape their captors when they dozed off due to the effects of the narcotics.

The arrests were made by officers from the Ofosu Division, acting on intelligence provided after the victims positively identified one of the perpetrators.

“The victims, however, escaped from their assailants at different dates after they had taken hard drugs and slept off.

“Through intelligence, on May 1, 2024, five among the six kidnappers were arrested by men of Ofosu division and have been identified by the victims as part of the gang that abducted them,” the police statement read.

Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipo, confirmed the arrests and announced that the suspects would soon face charges in court.

In a similar development, another individual named Adetokunbo Adesina was apprehended for allegedly plotting to commit multiple homicides, with his latest intended victim having paid him N110,000 to spare their life.
