Kwara Assembly passes KWASUTH, KWASUED bills

Kwara House of Assembly has passed the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital ( Establishment) Bill 2024 and Kwara State University of Education ( Establishment ) Bill 2024 passed into law.

This was after the reports of the House Committee on Health and Environment and House Committee on Education and Human Capital Development were presented at the plenary on Tuesday.

The bill was however read for the third time by the Clerk, Alhaji Ahmed Kareem, after deliberations by the lawmakers affirming their support for its passage.

The Chairman, House Committee on Health and Environment, Mr Rasaq Owolabi, presented the report on the health bill while the Chairman, House Committee on Education and Human Capital Development presented the report on education bill.

The Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, therefore directed the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Ahmed Kareem, to prepare a clean copy of the Appropriation Bill for Governor’s assent.

Meanwhile, the House mourned the deaths of CP Adeyinka Oyun, the Comptroller of the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Correctional Service, and Alhaji Abdulrazaq Bello, a journalist with Radio Nigeria and Chairman of the Kwara House of Assembly Press Corps.

The House under a motion of personal explanation by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Ojo Oyebode (APC/Oke Ogun) and Hon. Rukayat Shittu (APC/Owode Onire) both relying on Order 7, Rule 41 of the House.

In his submission, Hon. Oyebode, described CP Oyun as a distinguished ambassador of Kwara State who had made significant contributions in his career.

Similarly, Hon. Shittu described Mr. Bello, who passed away suddenly yesterday after experiencing discomfort at a hospital in Ilorin, as an important member of the fourth estate of the realm.

She highlighted his dedication to journalism and his unwavering commitment to using his profession in the service of God.

The Speaker, however, called for a minute of silence to honor the departed souls.
