The Kwara State Police Command has arrested controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, over allegations of criminal defamation and threats to life.

The arrest followed a petition filed by fellow entertainer, Okunlola Saheed, widely known as Osupa, alleging multiple offenses committed by the singer. Both individuals are active players in the entertainment industry.

Confirming the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday in Ilorin, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the petition against Portable contained serious allegations, including incitement, character assassination, use of abusive language, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

“In view of the weight of these allegations and the supporting evidence presented, the Command secured a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin,” the police spokesperson said.

She explained that police operatives, acting on the warrant, arrested Portable in Abeokuta, Ogun State, at about 7:25 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025, and subsequently brought him to Ilorin for further investigation.

“Upon his arrival, the suspect’s statement was taken in the presence of legal representatives from both parties. He is currently in custody, and arrangements are being made to charge him to court without delay,” the statement added.

The Kwara State Police Command reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served in a transparent and lawful manner.

It also urged the public to remain calm and avoid the spread of unverified information, assuring that further updates would be provided as the case progresses.
