Lagos commercial bus driver, conductor abscond as vechicle kills 1, injures 2

The driver and the conductor of a commercial bus that knocked down a pedestrian and injured two persons in a fatal accident at Iyana Ejigbo area of Lagos State, on Saturday, have absconded.
It was gathered that the duo fled the scene immediately after the accident, abandoning the victims and vehicle.
A statement issued by Adebayo Taofiq , the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), said the commercial bus traveled at an excessive speed, and experienced a catastrophic brake failure, causing the driver to lose control, adding “The vehicle veered off course and forcefully collided with unsuspecting bystanders”.
Taofiq added that operatives of LASTMA responded expeditiously to extract the deceased who was pinned beneath the bus, and also rendered immediate assistance to the injured, adding ” All three victims were swiftly conveyed to the General Hospital in Isolo for urgent medical intervention.
” Throughout the rescue effort, officers of the Ejigbo Police Division provided critical security reinforcement to ensure a smooth operation.
” The accident vehicle has since been transferred to the Police by LASTMA personnel for comprehensive investigation”.
Meanwhile, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family and extended heartfelt wishes for the swift recovery of the injured parties.
He further implored motorists to conscientiously observe stipulated speed limits and to prioritize regular vehicular maintenance—particularly of braking systems—to avert avoidable disasters on our roads.
