LASG insists traffic fines lawful, urges motorists to obey rules

The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed the legality of speed limits on selected roads, urging motorists to comply for the safety of all road users.
Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, cited Section 28(2)(a) of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law (2018) as the legal basis for penalizing motorists who exceed prescribed speed limits.
He also clarified that the Ministry of Transportation is solely responsible for determining the size, color, and type of traffic signs in the state, ensuring standardization and alignment with global best practices.
Addressing misinformation about the enforcement of speed limits, Osiyemi stated that speed limit cameras were installed on Alapere Road and Mobolaji Bank Anthony Road after thorough studies identified the need for them in those areas.
He added that further reviews would determine the installation of cameras in other parts of the state.
Reaffirming the primary purpose of the initiative, he emphasized that the speed cameras are designed to enhance commuter and motorist safety.
