LASG launches campaign to halt motorcycles on restricted routes

In an effort to uphold traffic regulations, the Lagos State Government has launched a robust campaign targeting motorcycles operating on restricted routes within the city.

This initiative, according to the government, was part of the ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and mitigate traffic congestion.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi who made this initiative known in Alausa, commended the recent strategic enforcement efforts by the State Commissioner of Police and the Lagos State Task Force.

He said the campaign aims to unequivocally halt motorcycle operations in restricted zones and ensure public safety.

The Commissioner added that the ban on commercial motorcycles (Okada) remains in force in 10 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 15 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) within the metropolis.

Osiyemi urged residents and commuters to refrain from using motorcycles on restricted routes.

He reiterated the penalties for violation, saying that both rider and passenger would be prosecuted by the transport reform law.

“Three years in prison for both riders and passengers with their motorcycles impounded and publicly crushed in accordance with Section 46, sub-sections 1, 2 & 3 of the Transport Sector Reform Law (TSRL), 2018”, said Osiyemi.

The Commissioner emphasised the importance of voluntary compliance, urging the public to abide with government policies for their safety and well-being.
