LASG to boost Blue Rail Line trips to 72 daily

…Introduces 25% fare discount for off-peak travel

The Lagos State Government (LASG) is set to enhance commuter experience on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line by increasing the number of daily trips from 54 to 72, effective Monday, August 12, 2024. This development aims to improve travel efficiency and convenience for residents of Lagos.

Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), announced the new schedule over the weekend. According to her, the travel time between Marina and Mile 2 will be reduced to just 18 minutes, down from the previous 25 minutes, allowing a train to arrive every 18 minutes in both directions.

In a bid to further enhance commuter convenience, LAMATA has also introduced a 25% fare discount for passengers traveling during off-peak hours, specifically between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM daily.

This initiative is expected to not only reduce journey times but also encourage more people to use the train system during less busy periods, easing congestion during peak hours and helping Lagosians save on transportation costs.

The updated train schedules, reflecting the increased frequency and fare discounts, are now available on LAMATA’s website, at train stations, and across its social media platforms.

Since its commencement on September 4, 2023, the Blue Rail Line has successfully transported nearly two million passengers, marking a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to provide efficient and affordable mass transit options.
