LASU to host international conference on SDGs

Lagos State University (LASU) has announced plans to host an international conference on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aimed at addressing the pressing challenges faced in achieving the SDGs by 2030.

Titled “Advancing the SDGs: Strategies for Global Impact,” the conference will bring together esteemed scholars, experts, and practitioners from around the world.

In light of the alarming global circumstances, where progress towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development has fallen short, the conference seeks to galvanize efforts and foster collaboration among various stakeholders to rescue and accelerate the achievement of the SDGs.

It recognizes that the world’s poorest countries and most vulnerable populations have borne the brunt of these setbacks, necessitating urgent action to rectify the situation.

The national conference will provide a platform for in-depth discussions on the different facets of the Agenda 2030 and the SDGs, with a specific focus on Nigeria and Africa.

The conference, jointly organized by LASU-SDG (Lagos State University Centre for the Actualization of the UN Sustainable Development Goals) and the United Nations, aims to facilitate dialogue, debates, and discussions on key issues related to sustainable development.

The conference will feature sessions dedicated to each of the four component areas of the Agenda 2030 and the SDGs. These sessions will delve into topics such as poverty alleviation, access to social services, human capital development, economic prosperity, sustainable energy, waste management, climate change mitigation, peace promotion, and more. The aim is to generate comprehensive insights and actionable recommendations that can guide future strategies to achieve the SDGs.

A crucial outcome of the conference will be the preparation of an outcome document, which will serve as a journal for wider dissemination among stakeholders.

Additionally, a summary paper will highlight key areas of focus proposed for the next seven years to support Nigeria and Africa in their SDG attainment efforts. This summary will contribute significantly to the SDG Summit scheduled to take place at the UN General Assembly in September 2023.

To ensure a diverse range of perspectives, the conference invites submissions of research papers, panel proposals, and poster presentations aligned with the designated sub-themes.

Abstracts for oral presentations and panel proposals should be submitted in Word format, accompanied by a PDF version for abstracts with special characters. While English is the primary language of the conference, submissions in Portuguese or French may also be considered, with abstracts submitted in both languages.

Interested participants are required to pay a conference fee, with presenters paying N20,000 (twenty thousand naira) and postgraduate students paying N10,000 (ten thousand naira). Payment should be made to LASU E-Pays Account at First Bank, with account number 1000009763.

The submission timeline for abstracts opens on June 12th, 2023, and the deadline for submission is August 11th, 2023. The conference is scheduled to take place on August 28th-29th, 2023.

Contributors can submit their abstracts to unlasusdgconference@gmail.com. For further information and inquiries, interested individuals can contact the conference organizers via email at director.lasusdg@lasu.edu.ng or visit the official website at www.lasu.edu.ng/lasusdg.
