Makinde goes on vacation, Lawal steps in as Acting Governor

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has handed over power to his deputy, Barrister Bayo Lawal.

The announcement was made via a letter read by Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin during Thursday’s valedictory plenary session for Mrs Yetunde Awe, who retires as Clerk of the House.

Governor Makinde, in the letter, informed the House that Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal would serve as the acting governor during his absence.

The governor will be taking a month-long vacation and is expected to return on Saturday, September 7, 2024.

“Pursuant to section 190 subsection 1 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I hereby transmit that during the period indicated above, Deputy Governor Barr. Bayo Lawal shall be the acting governor,” the letter read.

The move is a routine exercise of governance protocols to ensure continuity while the governor is away.

In his remarks, the Speaker expressed confidence in Barrister Lawal’s leadership capabilities to steer the ship of the state during Governor Makinde’s absence.
