Men urged to support women in embracing family planning

An NGO, The Challenge Initiative (TCI), on Thursday extended its family planning campaign to Ayepe community in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State, emphasizing the importance of male involvement in supporting women to adopt family planning.
During the campaign, TCI mobilisers educated residents—particularly women—on the benefits of child spacing and its positive impact on family well-being.
Mr. Gboyega Adeshina, who led the campaign, urged men to support their wives in adopting family planning methods, noting that contrary to misconceptions, family planning does not encourage promiscuity.
Adeshina emphasized that male support is key to the success of any family planning effort, adding that it enhances communication between couples and strengthens family unity.
He said, “The belief that women become promiscuous after adopting family planning is incorrect. We are sensitizing our men to support their wives in embracing family planning. The goal is to ensure peace, understanding, and collaboration between husband and wife. Family planning brings harmony to the home; it is not a licence for promiscuity.”
Adeshina also encouraged women who had not yet adopted any family planning method to do so, so they can give birth to a number of children they can adequately care for.
A highlight of the campaign was the distribution of “Gold Cards” to women willing to adopt family planning methods. The cards will allow them to access services at any primary healthcare center in the local government area for a method suitable to their needs.
