The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has confirmed that all preparations for the 2025 Hajj have been finalized, with the first batch of Nigerian pilgrims set to depart for Saudi Arabia on May 9, 2025.

This was disclosed on Tuesday following a briefing by the NAHCON board to Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, NAHCON Commissioner for Operations, Inspectorate and Licensing, Prince Anofi Elegushi, said comprehensive arrangements have been concluded in key locations, including Mecca and Medina, to ensure a seamless experience for Nigerian pilgrims.

“We have secured all accommodations in Mecca, Medina, and other locations. Bed spaces are confirmed, feeding has been paid for, and everything is in place to receive our pilgrims,” Elegushi stated. “The airlift to Saudi Arabia will begin on May 9 via Medina, conclude by May 24, and return flights will start on June 13 and end by July 2.”

He added that NAHCON is prepared to airlift over 40,000 pilgrims, including officials and 13,000 private pilgrims from licensed tour operators.

NAHCON Chairman, Professor Saleh Abdullahi Usman, noted that the commission’s preparations were well received by Vice President Shettima, who expressed satisfaction with the level of readiness.

In his remarks, Vice President Shettima emphasized the importance of delivering a successful Hajj operation, urging the commission to uphold high standards and ensure a spiritually fulfilling experience for all participants.

“All necessary measures must be taken to guarantee the success of the 2025 Hajj. We owe it to Nigerians and our pilgrims to ensure a smooth and spiritually fulfilling experience,” he said.
