National Single Window Project to contribute 7% annually to GDP growth, says FIRS chairman
The Chair of Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mr. Zacch Adedeji on Tuesday revealed that the recently launched National Single Window Project will have a significant impact on the Nigerian economy.
Adedeji, who briefed journalists at the state house following the launch of the project by President Tinubu in Abuja, also mentioned that the project is expected to generate an average Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate of 7 per cent annually.
Westernpost reported that the President Tinubu explained that the National Single Window Project is a digital platform that aims to simplify trade processes by enabling the electronic submission of documents and data to relevant government agencies.
He said the project is expected to reduce the time and cost of doing business in Nigeria, making it more attractive to foreign investors. Additionally, the platform will enhance transparency and efficiency in the trade sector, which will help to reduce corruption and improve revenue collection for the government.
Adedeji also described the project as more than just a technological advancement. He said It is a gateway to a more connected, efficient, and transparent system that links our ports, government agencies, and key stakeholders.
He said, “We will create a seamless ecosystem that will facilitate, saves time for business and open up a world of opportunity from providing access to education and healthcare, to enabling small business, to reach global market, digital connectivity is the key to unlocking Nigeria’s true potential.
Adedeji, who is a Special Adviser to the President on Revenue, also pointed out that the high cost, delay, and inefficiency at our ports have been a constant burden. It is estimated that we lose a staggering 4 billion USD annually due to this inefficiency.
According to him, “By addressing revenue leakage prevention and facilitating effective trade, we will reclaim these lost resources and channel them towards the betterment of our society.
